Dual Studies in Mechanical Engineering at LEWA

In collaboration with the Cooperative State University in Horb, Germany, LEWA offers a bachelor's degree program in the field of Mechanical Engineering. The program consists of alternating practical periods at LEWA headquarters in Leonberg and theoretical studies at the university in Horb. The program ends after 6 semesters with a Bachelor of Engineering degree.

Bachelor of Engineering dual studies program

Using their expertise in engineering science, holders of Bachelor of Engineering degrees design and build machines and systems for the most varied application areas. They independently work out goal-oriented, practical and economical solutions based on engineering science and using state-of-the-art technological knowledge.

Each semester of the dual studies program consists of two to three months of study in college and a subsequent practical phase at LEWA. Training during the practical, specialized phase builds upon the contents of the preceding theoretical phase so that the contents taught are explored in depth and added upon with a real-life focus.

The program ends after the sixth semester with the bachelor's thesis. The graduate will then be conferred the degree of Bachelor of Engineering. According to the law on higher education, this degree is equal to the degrees of universities and universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschule).

Opportunities for further professional development:

  • Duration: 2 years (1.5 years if fast track by recognition of practical phases is possible)

Requirements for our students

  • Internship at LEWA (September): General knowledge and introduction to the company, possibly a seminar in presentation technology and a preparatory math course
  • General or specialized secondary school diploma with good grades: We place special emphasis on the subjects of Mathematics, German, Physics, English and Technology
  • Ambition and motivation, punctuality and skill, creative inventiveness, willingness and ability to incorporate in new complex processes and developments in the technical field, familiarity with the PC, flexibility, independence, the ability to work in a team and commitment.
